The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things is a novel-like book of ten related short stories written by Laura Albert under the pseudonym, JT LeRoy, The title is taken from Jeremiah 17:9.
The brief was to develop a graphic interpretation of the book. The final would include front and back cover and at least 2 spreads for each chapter.
The spreads were meant to represent a different chapter in the book. The novel has strong language and vivid imagery which is why the book design is focused on typography to create the same feeling as when you’re reading it. I used a lot of distorted text to represent the awful childhood the main character had.
